96 Hectares / 237 acres

$549,000

This charming little Eco-Lodge is a true natural treasure. It has 80 hectares of primary forest and 14 hectares of secondary forest. It consists of one ranch-style house and a ranch-style cabin for rental. The property has good views out over the Sierpe-Terraba Wetlands. It’s flanked by rivers and it has 2 private waterfalls, the tallest of which is 35 meters high. It also has 2 hectares of productive cacao plantation. The lodge is extremely secluded and it gives you the feeling of living in your own private valley surrounded by untouched forest.

Conservation Potential

The Jaguar Eco-Lodge overlooks two of the most important conservation areas in the southern zone of Costa Rica – the Terraba-Sierpe Wetlands and the Corcovado-Piedras Blancas Biological Corridor. The springs that are born on this property are a vital source of water for this key biological corridor. The rivers that start here also provide water to the local population, and the forest and its many springs are accordingly under the official protection of the local ASADA water authority. The property’s forest is also under government protection as part of the FONAFIFO system, for which it receives a cheque for $3,000 per year.

The 80 hectares of primary forest within the property are a healthy and thriving ecosystem that harbours countless endangered species. The presence here of tepezcuintles (Cuniculus paca) is a very positive sign, because it’s a strong indication that there is no illegal hunting happening.

More than one species of poisonous dart frog inhabit the rivers here, including the rare and highly threatened Gulfodulcean poison frog (Phyllobates vittatus), which is arguably the most beautiful of Costa Rica‘s 7 species of poison frogs.

Eco-tourism Potential

The Jaguar Eco-Lodge is a turn-key rental operation with a ranch-style cabin that is already a successful rental. There are 2 cleared building lots that are perfect for the construction of additional buildings, and the owner has already secured government permits to build 3 houses and a swimming pool.

The property’s location provides the perfect platform on which to create a first class Eco-Tourism enterprise in harmony with nature. The pristine primary rainforest valley that the property occupies offers the ideal opportunity for treks into pristine jungle. The location in Tinoco also offers easy access to multiple popular and famous environmental hot-spots.

The town of Sierpe with its mangrove tours and boat services to Corcovado National Park and Isla de Canó is only 45 minutes away. Piedras Blancas National Park is a close neighbour, and the Marino Ballena National Park with its famous Whale’s Tail is just an hour’s drive away.

The many wonders of the Gulfo Dulce and the Osa peninsula are less than an hour’s drive from here, giving close access to an incredibly wide spectrum of fabulous ecological day trips. But it’s not only ecological wonders that are located nearby. The UNESCO World Heritage Arqueological Sites of Batambal, El Silencio, Finca 6 and Grijalba that showcase the mysterious stone spheres are also all within an hour’s drive.

Access and Amenities

The property lies 3 kilometres from the Pan-American Highway, and the unmade road that leads from the highway to the lodge is in excellent condition.

Jaguar Eco-Lodge is entirely off-grid and the electricity is provided by solar power. Water is particularly abundant on this property, whose multiple springs provides water to the nearby villages of Jalaca and Puerta del Sol.
