VISTA CORDILLERA
Stunning Hilltop Retreat
37 acres / 15 hectares
$400,000
Perched on a commanding hilltop with breathtaking views of Turrialba Volcano as it towers above the gaping expanse of the Reventazon River Valley, this property has one of the most stunning vistas in Costa Rica. To the northwards those views stretch all the way down to the distant Caribbean coast.
The exceptional panoramic views can be enjoyed from a selection of fine buildings. The property includes a 2-story wooden house with a wrap-around balcony, a small wooden cabin, and a large salon building for hosting events. These are complimented by a swimming pool with an outside bar, and an observation deck which hangs spectacularly out above the valley below.
The property includes 3 acres of existing forest cover which line a stream that passes right through it. The remainder of the land has been deforested to create cattle pasture. It's location on a quiet backroad leading down to the Reventazon reservoir means that there is very little passing traffic, making this outstanding hilltop home an extremely tranquil topical hideaway.
CONSERVATION POTENTIAL
The hilltop constructions are surrounded by 35 acres of cleared ranch-land which requires reforestation in order to restore this important section of the Barbilla-Destierro Biological Corridor to its former glory.
The Jaguar Project recommends, and can assist you to implement, a 30-acre reforestation program focusing on native tree species that are beneficial to the local fauna. There is also the potential for a cacao polyculture plantation here, layering multiple different fruiting species on top of each other along with some carefully selected tropical hardwoods. Interspersing the appropriate density of hardwoods would make such a plantation eligible for financial support from the Government's FONAFIFO subsidy program, which offers assistance to reforestation plantations.
ECO-TOURISM POTENTIAL
The numerous existing structures provide the perfect basic infrastructure for a first-class, small Eco-retreat offering bird-watching, horseback riding and stunning views of the Reventazon valley. The large events hall would lend itself perfectly to becoming a visitor’s center for environmental education. Any new development here must be kept to a bare minimum in order to ensure that this property continues to be used as an important migration route for felines.
ACCESS AND AMENITIES
The property is located 1 kilometer drive down a well-maintained dirt road which branches off the main paved highway 10 that connects Siquirres and Turrialba. All of the necessary municipal amenities are only 20 minutes drive away in the town of Siquirres. The nearest restaurants and a local store are less than 10 minutes away in the tiny village of Guayacan.
The property has a stream running through it providing abundant clean water, and electricity is provided by the national grid.
LOCATION IN COSTA RICA
The closest town of Siquirres is located halfway between San Jose and the Caribbean Coast. It is 2 hours drive from Costa Rica's main international airport, and just an hour away from the nearest regional airport at Guapiles. This part of Costa Rica is exceptionally well suited to environmental and conservation activities.
The Reventazon Valley is surrounded by multiple national parks and reserves including Barbilla National Park, Guayabo National Monument, Turrialba Volcano National Park, Tapanti National Park, Rio Macho Forest Reserve and the Pacuare Forest Reserve. The world famous Pacuare River with the best white-water rafting in Central America is just 25 minutes drive away.
