Best views in the Osa peninsula

78 Hectares / 193 acres
$795,000

This stunning property has the most impressive views in the Osa peninsula. On one side there is a panoramic 180-degree vista of the sunrise over the Gulfo Dulce, and on the other side it has a fabulous view of the primary forests of the Rio Barrigones valley that leads to Corcovado. The property includes one large rustic style house, and a 3-bedroom cabin with a kitchen and a terrace overlooking the ocean.

The property has over 100 acres of primary forest, and the remainder is a mixture of cattle crazing, fruit plantations and bamboo. There is an incredible array of mature fruit trees here which provide a steady supply of fruits such as oranges, lemons, mangosteen and grapefruit. The property also has a productive gold mine.

Conservation Potential

The property is the gateway to the world famous Corcovado National Park, which has been described by National Geographic as “the most biologically intense place on Earth”. The track that marks the southern border of this property leads straight to the park, and the park itself begins a few hundred meters beyond the property’s boundaries.

More than half of the property’s almost 200 acres are made up of primary rainforest. The pristine condition of the ecosystem here and its connectivity to Corcovado’s 164 square miles of protected jungle means that the level of biodiversity is extremely high. Our camera traps have already recorded an unusually high variety of rare and endangered species on the property including ocelots, margays, tapirs, peccaries, tepezcuintles and white-tailed deer. Both tapirs and peccaries regularly come close to the buildings here to feast on fallen fruit.

Approximately 25 acres of the land is open pasture that requires restoration. The Jaguar Project can provide the resources and the experience to assist the new owners of the land to reforest the degraded areas with a wide spectrum of native tree species in order to strengthen the ecosystem and boost biodiversity.

Eco-tourism Potential

The Gateway to Corcovado offers an exceptional opportunity to create one of the most impressive Eco-Lodge’s in Costa Rica. Visiting Corcovado National Park is the primary tourist activity on the Osa Peninsula. It is a time consuming and expensive operation for most visitors. But from this property you can simply walk to Corcovado from your back door.

The potential for exciting ecological day-trips from here is enormous. There are multiple different opportunities for jungle trekking, whale-watching, horseback riding and birdwatching within a short distance.
